It is vital for the safety of not only yourself but also that of your passengers that tyres are checked regularly. Our brief guide is here to help you find out what to look for when inspecting your tyres. If you are unsure about anything you may find, please ring our qualified staff for assistance before driving the vehicle.
Tyre pressure Maintaining the correct tyre pressure is important for 3 reasons. Firstly and most important is safety, incorrect tyre pressure can dangerously effect the handling of the vehicle. Secondly is tyre wear, underinflated tyres wear much quicker and therefore need replacing sooner. Finally is emissions, higher rolling resistance requires more fuel which results in more damage to the environment. Wheel alignment Wheel alignment is split into 2 sections, tracking and camber. Tracking is the measure of how parallel all 4 wheels are aligned. Camber is the vertical measure of how the wheels sit in relation to the vehicle. Both measures directly effect the handling and tyre wear of a vehicle. A simple pot-hole is enough to knock the tracking out of line so regular checks are highly recommended. Wheel balanceDue to manufacturing irregularities, tyres and wheels require balancing. Unbalanced wheels create vibration which transfers through to the steering wheel. This can not only cause an uncomfortable drive but at higher speeds can cause handling issues. This vibration also causes suspension and steering components to wear faster resulting in expensive maintenance costs. |
